David Abraham

Founding Trustee

David is Jacob’s father and founding trustee of the Jacob Abraham Foundation.

“I am Jacob’s uncle and I have fond memories of Jacob’s life, especially of a ski trip we took together. I have just left the RAF after 19 years of service and I am one of the founding trustees.

I wrote the Constitution and Business Plan and also submitted the charity application. The team articulated the 4 main objectives and set our vision, aims and values.

After Jacob’s suicide, it occurred to me that I had lost many young male friends through suicide and that many of my military colleagues were suffering in silence.

Mental health and suicide issues are not being tackled and people are choosing to end their lives rather than confide in others; the ignorance, stigma and the lack of support for suiciding people is shameful and this charity will make a difference.”

Martin Hole

Jacob's Uncle and Founding Trustee

“I joined the Jacob Abraham Foundation in January 2021 as Office Manager and Fundraising Co-ordinator.

I previously worked as a team manager in the finance sector for over 20 years.

My passion for raising suicide awareness came following lived experience and since working with the foundation, I have been inspired to start a journey into counselling through becoming a psychology student with the Open University.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, studying, travelling, and spending time near the sea.

One life lost to suicide is too many. Lets make a difference together and help save the lives of people in need of support – Thank You.”

Amanda Sargent

Office Manager / Fundraising Co-ordinator

“My name is Bryn, and I am a Dramatherapist working within the service, primarily in the postvention arm where I oversee the Gwent project. I joined the team in 2021 and have found the work incredibly meaningful, particularly the opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference for individuals and families through the support we provide.

Alongside my clinical role, I am currently the Chair of the Gwent Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm Expert Advisory Group, working collaboratively with professionals across the sector to drive impact and improvement within Gwent.
In this work, I remain deeply grateful to the individuals and families who place their trust in us, allowing us to walk alongside them and support them through their grief journeys.

Outside of work, I prioritise my own wellbeing through a range of activities, including keeping fit, watching live sport, enjoying an eclectic taste in music, building Lego, and spending time outdoors on forest walks with my family.”

HANNAH DENMAN

Health Psychologist (HCPC registered) & Lead therapist

“My name is Steph, and as the Training Lead for the Jacob Abraham Foundation, I develop and deliver training programs focused on suicide prevention and bereavement support. My goal is to equip individuals with the skills and confidence to intervene when someone is in crisis and to offer compassionate support to those grieving a loss by suicide.

Before joining the Foundation, I worked with various neurodiverse charities, assisting individuals into employment and accessing their communities.

I enjoy watching sci-fi and love taking my dog Obi for walks.”

Stephanie Mapstone

Therapeutic Practitioner & Lead Trainer

“I have over 25 years’ experience working with families facing trauma and mental health challenges as well as children & young people on the edge of care. My work has focused on delivering therapeutic support to help families stay together safely during these difficult times.

In 2006, I lost my brother to suicide — a life-changing experience that brought a deep understanding of the complex grief suicide brings. At the time, support was limited, and my family faced that loss without guidance.

Over time, with the help of supportive colleagues and friends, I found a way through. Now I am passionate about supporting others affected by suicide and I combine my professional experience with personal insight to support individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts and families bereaved by suicide — offering empathy, understanding, and most of all hope. “Suicide is not the desire to die, but the desire to end the pain” – Matt Haig.

I love to spend my free time with family and friends and love the outdoors, walking and exploring the beautiful world around us. I also love to bargain hunt and I’m a “want to be crafter and DIYer”.

Rosemary Debono

Therapeutic Practitioner

“Prior to joining The Jacob Abraham Foundation I worked for many years as a practitioner working with children and families with the children’s charity Barnardo’s. After gaining a MSc in 2013 in Play Therapy I worked as a Play Therapist in the Bereavement team then moving on to the Family Wellbeing Service.

In 2021 I had the opportunity to work for The Jacob Abraham Foundation as a Play Therapist. At present I deliver play therapy both 1 to 1 and sibling sessions also family sessions when needed. I offer Bereavement Support 1 to 1 with adults. Once a month I facilitate an adult Bereavement group. Throughout the year I organise group events for families. I feel so fortunate to be able to support families individually or in a group setting, to be trusted to listen to families’ personal experiences and to then offer support.

I like to swim and go for walks, I enjoy visiting the cinema to see a good film and fill up on popcorn.”

“My name is Sioned, and I work with the Jacob Abraham Foundation as a suicide prevention and postvention counsellor. I support individuals, families, and communities who are experiencing emotional distress or have been affected by suicide, offering compassionate, understanding support during some of life’s most difficult moments. My work focuses on early intervention, crisis support, and ongoing care after loss, always guided by a person-centred and empathetic approach. I am passionate about creating safe, non-judgmental spaces where people feel genuinely heard, valued, and supported, and I am deeply committed to reducing stigma around mental health and helping people find hope, strength, and connection.”
